This car is one of 50 built by British Coachworks in 1985 for the "Schweppes Great British Sweepstakes".  The cars were displayed in grocery stores and shopping malls as well as being used as promotional tools by independent bottelers.

The construction of the cars differ very little from that of a typical turnkey car.  British Coachworks purchased a fleet of Chevrolet Chevettes to supply its cars with new, reliable components.  They disassembled the cars, retaining the components needed.  The major components scavenged from the Chevette were the engine and transmission, front and rear suspension pieces and the electrical system.  British Coachworks made a few modifications to the cars such as raising the windshield and updating the seat belt arrangement to code.

Linda had always dreamed of owning an old English sports car (since she spent most of her childhood in England), but after looking at originals and calculating the cost of maintenance a kit car was the next best thing.  Steve & Linda looked at several kit cars prior to purchasing this one in July 2000.  It was love at first sight !  Since that time, the entire interior (thanks to Linda's husband and father) has been refurbished and new shocks and wire wheel covers were installed along with a new radio/CD player and speakers.  Linda entered the car in the "Transportation Parade" which is held annually in their hometown and it won first place in its category.

Linda & Steve both enjoy cars - along with "her" 52 MG-TD they own a 2001 red Corvette Convertible, 1989 Porsche 911 Silver Anniversary Edition; 1999 Cavalier Z24 and a 1985 Mazda Pickup Truck.  Linda & Steve learned about the Chicagoland Replicar Association by meeting and visiting with Ken & Meha Smith at the Club Sandwich meet in Collinsville, IL  this past summer.
